1. Replace most of existing lineup with rebadged Skoda line up, such as this Octavia. Price it as if it were build in eastern Europe instead of Germany/Mexico/US.
2. Offer 100k bumper to bumper warranty.
3. Offer cars in a variety of fun colors... again.
4. ???
5. Collect all the monies

Could be reasonably successful providing they're badged as Volkswagens.

Stop trying to be reasonable. VW doesn't want to be reasonable. Duh. (Personally I love your idea. Skoda is awesome)

I can't help it. I have a soft spot for the brand and watching them flail like this sucks.

Work on their QC should be number 1.
For every VW owner I have talked to, 1 loves the brand, 2 have their cars always in the shop with issues and 1 thinks the car is fine, but wish they had bought something else.
If the reliability were consistently higher... they may have a chance of really hitting a home run. But they are on par with BMW or Mercedes it seems, and its never a good thing to be out done by Hyundai!

Seems logical to me. Skoda fits US market demands better than VW I'd guess. They're larger yet cheaper, but do retain some of the German character that's so sadly missing in the current Jetta sedan and presumably the US market Passat.

The quality has been getting better each year, but that is why a 100k warranty would have to be part of the plan. Consumers are skeptical and have heard the occasional horror story. Backing the cars for the first 100k miles would be a sign of good faith.

Agreed, the Tommy Boy quote comes to mind though:
The reason why they have a guarrantee on the box is because they know all they sold you is a guarranteed piece of shit. Hell, I can take a crap in a box and slap a guarrantee on it for you, if that's what you want.
Either way, we are looking at many years of recovery. And if they warranty covers all the odd issues, but I am still without my car a couple times a year I would be just as pissed.

That is why there is a difference between a "guarantee" and a "warranty".
